The Social Contract

Ignorance, fear, confusion, ego, a lust for control, a lust for power, deception, war, a lack of truth, misplaced faith, a lack of hope; these have all led to the social contract as a course from the madness, through the avenue of science, to the veneer of civilization that has taken hold in the West since the Renaissance; because in the Renaissance, hope became tangible as institutions turned out to be accountable to truth. In Africa, the East, and the Mid-East, the same process took place sooner, and then wobbled due to the whims of fortune and the lure of power.

Today, throughout the planet, the institutions trusted by generations have been effectively dismantled by the tsunami of ignorance expelled by social media, naked corporate media, and the free-market-internet. In these last forty-odd years, trust in governments, media, law, education, healthcare, and our leadership has been sucked away by an increasing sophistication by purveyors of crowd control. Leaving most fearful of either losing what they have gained or fearful of accountability, the purveyors of enhanced crowd control ironically see themselves as enlightened; meaning, truth has no weight in a interconnected world where propaganda and every viewpoint travels at light speeds around the globe concealing fact in fear and confusion. The goal is successful commerce and the resulting power wildly successful commerce bestows upon its owners.

We are entering a time burdened by this refined view of the world: “It is all about selling some product.” The destructiveness of this view cannot be understated.

There are no longer trusted institutions. So the battle for power is to establish a “trusted institution” to latch onto, to believe in, to follow forward through days filled with mayhem. As a result, the mistrust of governmental institutions and their proposals accelerates. (As in…Just what are they trying to sell this time?) The search for a path forward outside the mainstream intensifies, as we have seen since 2016. The platoon mentality grows, further eroding enlightened society.

Sadly, there is no clear, civilized path, forward from this because the various power centers adjust to market conditions in real time. They will shove their method of a “trusted institution” into more and more radical measures seeking the addiction that successfully erects a barrier to their perceived competitors’ ability to effectively react and steal the power base. Clearly, the responses will not be sustainable–unless we are exceedingly lucky. More likely, we will witness an ugly rubble.

Part of that outcome, along with turmoil, will be a growing, unstoppable study of the concept of truth and its value to us all. An accelerating awareness will eventually take hold. In doing so, the worth of truth will again hold sway against the tempest of ego and the lure of power. Accountability by institutions, leadership, and law returns; however, before that happens we face a period of pain and hardship. Our tasks today, if done well, will limit the horrors of an ugly rubble. That is the keystone of today’s social contract.

Coping effectively with the truth of anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance is the first order of business. It’s about retained energy by the planet not “Global Warming” or “Climate Change”. Identify those who gain from obfuscation of our plight and economically ruin them. This is also our task.

Hmmm, search the above MIT site for “radiative forcing”. The direct link appears to have an intermittent problem, but just in case the link is working during your visit… https://climate.mit.edu/explainers/radiative-forcing
