Internal Memo

Background:

Chennai, India–population 4.6 million and capital of the Indian State of Tamil Nadu.

“Equities Inc., Looters As Rand, and the Fossil Fuels Cartel welcome you to another round table on climate change. Please take a seat.”

A portly figure enters the stage from the right. He sports a dark blue suit, white shirt with a red, white, and blue striped tie. “Good morning, my name is Jones. I am the Chief Executive Officer of EI. As is the custom in all of the EI&FFC briefings, dissension, disagreement, and difficult questions will not be tolerated. Attendance in our briefings is a privilege. Treat it as such.”

This is it!

“Step right up to the greatest show on Earth. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the world famous Climate Big Top is coming soon to your town.

“This year, the global greenhouse is bigger and better than last year. More Thrills. More Chills. More Chaos. More Corruption. See fires burn. Watch interstates buckle; bridges wash away–storms tearing up entire towns–seas rising into cities. Ignore the floods. Say good-bye to memories of places like Miami, Cape Cod, the Maldives, Venice, Washington DC, Hong Kong, NYC, Saaan Francisco, and Houston.

“World War Not”

(If media had reported on World War II, the way they report Anthropogenic Forcing of the Radiative Balance)

To Wit:

December 7, 1941:

…Sketchy reports have come in about ships taking on water in Pearl Harbor. Experts at CNS (Cartel News Service) say it is common for ships to take on water during storms and there are large pumps in the ships that handle such events. Let’s talk with an expert from the Enterprise Institute about pumps…”

FYI

Some say the current weather we are experiencing in the western US is not indicative of a trend fostered by anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance, but rather El Nino–warmer sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean.

Large-scale weather events like warmer sea surface temperatures (like El Nino), affect dependent weather (sub) systems like drought, or rain storms, or beautiful August nights. Systems like ENSO (El Nino), the AO, the PDO, or the NAO have sway over smaller weather events.

Maybe we just post without using a spell checker? 😉

To wit:

It is an interesting question: If you were alive and were granted access to Adolph Hitler, or other significant leaders of the Nazi Party in 1930 what might you have done?

In the past, many would answer “Violence!” Or anything to stop the scourge of Fascism and the horrific change it had on the world, killing millions, wounding billions, and obliterating civilization in parts of the world for a decade.

Years ago, I saw a film called The Four Feathers. A story of English society, it features heroism in the face of class pressure. In many ways, The Four Feathers is the analogue for my series of books,The Galileo Syndrome,” “The Fires of Home,” “The Dirties,” and “Hobo Signs.” As the planet’s retort to our negligent forcing of the radiative balance comes clear, the four phases of an energized climate will be presented to us in ways we cannot ignore. Like The Four Feathers, we will cope with the four phases coming at us because we have no choice. Lastly, like The Four Feathers, courage will emerge in ways we can hardly imagine.

A recent spate of news attention regarding climate focuses on “radiation management.” Without mentioning why “radiation management” matters, declaring only a need for “radiation management,” a form of geo-engineering, to deal with “global warming.” The inability of major news organizations to convey why they believe “radiation management” is important–other than to say we need it because we cannot control our CO2 output–is shameful. Why would an editor not ask, “Why control the energy our atmosphere allows out into space?” Regardless, the media has begun chanting a tune. That tune tells us to rebalance the heat energy radiating from the planet into space without explaining why that matters to us.

It is now clear that the Catholic Church and its leader the Pope will stand firm on the issue of climate, declaring human forcing of the radiative balance a clear and present danger to humanity–on many levels. Normally, Climatebull provides satire, humor, or pointed commentary about the callous, sometimes nefarious nature of certain large institutions, as well as their stance on the climate. In some of my writings, the subject can be somber. In this essay, there is none of the above. We have a story from my younger days.

(No Joke)

In that war of words over the changing climate, sparks have erupted between California and Florida. While lobbyists in Florida demand disuse of words like wet, flooding, excess water, global warming, snakes, and sea level rise. Lobbyists in California seek more use of words like wet, flooding, excess water, global warming, and a lessening of words like desert, drought, overhyped, geo-engineering, and stupid. At the same time, the opening of the tornado season in Oklahoma has prompted an effort to disallow words like rain, tornado, huge-ass-hail, and storms–putting Oklahoma and Florida lobbyists at odds with California lobbyists. Parties in Alaska appear to be seeking a ban on the word mud while sources in Colorado are considering a ban on the words forest, beetles, and fires–with an uptick on words like water and hey dude. (This is a joke.)

Marionettes  –  By A. Quixote

There is a particular charm that comes over the marionette enthusiast after making his or her first small figure come alive. Such a curious and charming little creature is the marionette. People of all ages and backgrounds have been drawn to his spell for years. Besides the construction of the puppets, a process known to be time consuming and potentially expensive, the actually manipulation of the puppet is where the real skill–and the interest–lies. After successfully controlling one of these little figures, one quickly finds it difficult not to look forward to their next bout of lighthearted play. The diligent puppeteer will find unlimited avenues for his or her marionettes, and not only for entertainment, but as a profitable enterprise as well!

Pardon My French

Too often, interests have neutered the term tipping point by connecting it to irrelevant events, as if it were a game changing play in a football game. Less often, the tipping point is used in a more rational format, coupling the evidence of its onset–before the climate goes catawampus. After all, once the tipping point fully engages, clarity is pointless.

“Hello, Ms. Gaia, this is John, from Corruption Inc. How can I help you?”

“Yes, well…”

“Before we start, I am required to tell you this call may be monitored or recorded for training purposes, litigation, or customer intimidation. Is that okay with you?”

“I expected nothing less. I am calling about the rain, in South America.”

An issue climatologists have concerns about–in regards to anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance–is the randomizing of weather events. That means the Chaotic system we call climate becomes too chaotic due to the increasing amount of energy in the atmosphere. The increasing energy in the atmosphere comes from solar rays trapped by our planet through (GHGs) Greenhouse Gases–like carbon dioxide.

art

Art is a commitment, from the universe. A fire that does not extinguish itself in the blunt of time, art can be evaded, minimized, or deleted–as best as the human condition might allow–but art returns just the same. For the artist, it is a gentle thump in the night that pulls the individual from bed forcing back sleep, giving weight to the canvas or the manuscript. Art hauls you away from lovers so you can research, enhance, or better understand your project. Art is the menial jobs. Art is loneliness. Art is sadness, joy, the heartbeat of the universe and the need of humans to express that beat. Art is an unfair trade.

Governance-By-Equities

Is Truth Ever An Option?

Op-Ed by Hephaestus Nwo, PhD

Let’s discuss keeping the poor and underprivileged out of the way, in their place, docile and compliant–on a globally warmed Earth. Topping the list for keeping the underclass tame is making sure they have food, shelter, potable water, and protection for their families. After all, we don’t want to radicalize the little varmints during this crisis by conveying their situation. (Note that varmint is a relative term–oh I see, you are upper middle class–hmm…)

So that you know what to look for, note the ascending dark blue line and the light blue line hovering around 40GT of CO2e in the chart below.

From email 1

The light blue line means we are increasing the concentration of CO2e, in our atmosphere by about 40 billion tons of CO2e per year through 2100. This number has to be ZERO, or a negative number, to facilitate any reduction in the concentration of CO2e in the atmosphere.

During the 1930’s hobos and homeless wandered this nation in search of a sustainable life. Apparently abandoned by their society, these nomads developed a system of communication and interconnection using pictures to convey valuable data about locations and situation. Details about food, travel, medical care, and danger were all included. On one level, signs provide community.

Mid Semester Quiz

1) Carbon intensity and GHG reduction is not the same thing. Carbon intensity ties the changing climate to economics while GHG reductions deal with the changing climate as an independent entity, not as a subset of economy. So, instead of assisting in risk assessment, carbon intensity fosters propaganda. This is good because:

A. Economics is as important as the climate

B. Economics impact your trust fund and climate does not

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has developed a series of worldwide “Weather Reports” for the year 2050 to highlight our future and bring attention to the changing climate.

This is the link.

I support their efforts. I also believe they do not go far enough in their reports. So, as you might expect, The Climatebull has its own version. (For those of you not up on the latest technology for communication in 2050, I will provide a text translation as well as source.)

Free Methane !

clathrates

According to numerous sources, methane has been a captive of our cooler climate locked up inside hydrate molecules, stuck deep in the ocean, or imprisoned in the permafrost for millenniums. Buried deep in the mud and slime, sequestered in hydrates–a molecular prison with little opportunity for escape–methane had little opportunity for freedom until anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance added energy to the planet. An event nurtured by regressive industries.

An Argument for Grunting to Explain Complex Concepts

For years now, some in media have suggested that wordage and its accompanying conceptual framework hover around an 8th grade reading level. For example, instead of using “anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance,” we use the term “climate change.”

Consider the advantages: “anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance” has fifteen syllables while “climate change” has three syllables.

Let’s improve on that.

Emissions

The total emissions of carbon pollution from human sources for 2011 was about 50 gigatons. Terrestrial GHG (Green House Gas) sinks took up about 20 gigatons. Therefore, human processes in 2011 had net emissions about 30 gigatons (30,000,000,000 tons) of carbon pollution. So, worldwide, about 40% of carbon pollution is being sequestered by sinks. You ask, “Is that good news?”

No, but it could be worse.

Peak Stupid

Two decades ago, calculations came to light regarding the most curious event of our age: Peak Stupid. Previously, it had been a fait accompli that the world’s supply of stupid would remain an unending cascade of drivel destined to flow for generations. Enough stupid to run our government, enough stupid to cripple our economy, nonsense to support the growth of stupid cartels, to foster stupid third world development, stupid policies, and stupid geo-engineering projects–once upon a time–stupid seemed unstoppable.

May 242013

Pushed off a cliff by highly relevant herd-based messages from first responders, the reactionary remnants of the Industrial Age plunge into a rising sea of transparency. In a pitiable montage of attempts at dominion, the intransigent old guard declares its hidden control, misinformation, disinformation, and fear-wedges. The destruction and debilitation of fact, the sequestration of change, the truth gaps providing life support to the old world order, all flailing in the drop. A shadow government, the victim of exposure, gives way to the Information Age.

NEWS YOU CAN USE

For a generation, climatologists and others have been predicting the advent of chaotic weather, otherwise known as the energized climate, or from the spin mongers: weird weather. Considered a step closer to the Tipping Point, the step after the Tipping Point is runaway global warming. In opposition, others say there is no anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance: The changing climate is an abstract debate among scientists; an attempt to line the pockets of researchers; a socialist myth seeking to garner control of life and assets. Even more often now, the mantra says the changing climate is a naturally occurring event–voiced in support of various recruits who mortar doubt into the population.

Okay, so stop me if you’ve heard this one. An environmentalist, a blogger, and fossil fuel executive walk into a bar. The environmentalist walks up to the bartender and asks for, ‘A green planet, neat.’ The blogger says, ‘Hey, I’ll have word with you.’ The fossil fuel executive passes gas.

Caring for the Environmentally Challenged

Repeated damage in the Northeast is a glimpse of the often-predicted climate shift–the consequence of energy systems and affiliated processes emitting excess GHGs like carbon dioxide. Focusing on the Northeast portion of the United States, one event continues to reappear as the progenitor of that damage: Storms feeding other storms.

Climate Changes

It appears that suggested solutions to the changing climate bring little beyond the retort of media spin. Such as:

  1. See, we can ride out this climate thing.
  2. Yee haw!  Thanks for the data.
  3. We think we can geo-engineer with the climate thing.
  4. Don’t worry we can fix this climate thing.

So, let’s serve up a dish of old-school climate problems:

Have you ever been in the American Southwest?

Among the desolate beauty, around the flying plastic bags, over the minerals, and resting upon the beer cans is a lot of sunshine. That seems pretty obvious, doesn’t it? After a summer of wandering about the desert feeling like a nomadic mop, I found myself questioning the logic of funding shale, building pipelines, and drilling into the Arctic–all to pump a few more gigatonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Preamble: The Dilettante Boogie

Recently, a heretofore-climate-skeptic-business-person-that-would-be-leader oft quoted by the media lamented on the changing climate. The human condition, this newly minted environmentalist said, was the cause of energized storms, droughts, the migration of disease, and sea level rise. Worse, the predicament of people not paying attention to the changing climate–and implementing effective action–was also caused by humanity’s quirks. “We are failing,” said the dilettante, “at survival.” Further, “Something, anything, needs to be done to foster awareness lest we are burped off the planet.” Before dancing forward to declare how his companies’ products would help us.

Responding to the crisis fostered by super storm Sandy, Traders Without Borders (TWB) has set up its first-ever US-based relief effort. TWB, better known for investment efforts in the third world, the development of foreign oil fields, snagging raw materials from the Earth behind the mask of dictatorships, subjugating indigenous populations, and plans to rape the Arctic. TWB has had a long history of stepping in when social clarity requires extraordinary efforts to secure seedy investments.
